Hi, let me share a little bit of my story!

A few things about me

Hello! I'm Arthur Barreto, a Computer Engineering student on a full scholarship at Insper. I was born in Palmas-TO and have a deep passion for technology and technical development, with experience in academic competitions and international research.

Very soon, I will begin an academic exchange program at the IÉSEG School of Management in France, where I aim to complement my technical background with leadership and business skills. This exchange will be a valuable opportunity to broaden my horizons and acquire the knowledge needed to succeed as an entrepreneur in the future. Classes begin on January 6th, and the recommended arrival at the university is by January 3rd.

As this is a bilateral exchange program, the costs related to the partner university are already covered. Additionally, I receive a cultural scholarship from Insper's scholarship program, of which I am a beneficiary. However, this amount is not sufficient to cover all the other expenses required to live a semester abroad and experience the cultural exchange, which is a mandatory component of this scholarship. Therefore, this campaign aims to raise the necessary funds to cover additional costs such as airfare, food, housing, and other related expenses.

My Story

Childhood: I was born and raised in Palmas, TO, in an environment filled with love, dedication, and examples of perseverance. My father, a mechanic who devoted himself tirelessly to his work, taught me the value of hard work and determination in building a better future. My mother, a teacher passionate about education, was the one who first ignited my love for learning. From an early age, she encouraged me to explore, learn, and never give up on my dreams. I clearly remember my first day of school: I was excited, often playing pretend school at home, eagerly awaiting that new experience. I learned to read and write at Colégio Dom Bosco, in Palmas, where I made many friends, including one I still keep in touch with and later reunited with in high school. After that phase, I attended the school where my mother taught, Olga Benário. There, I developed a love for mathematics, my first major academic passion, and it was also where I earned my first medal in school competitions. I completed elementary school at Colégio Militar de Palmas, which played a fundamental role in teaching me life values, routine, and discipline. During this period, my interest in mathematics blossomed even more, and after a few attempts, I finally earned my first medal in OBMEP (Brazilian Public School Mathematics Olympiad). With the unconditional support of my parents, I built a solid foundation that now drives me toward greater achievements, always honoring every lesson I received throughout my life.

High School: In high school, I immersed myself in the world of science olympiads, with a special focus on robotics. Through the IFTO, I traveled across several Brazilian states, participating in competitions and meeting extraordinary people who became lifelong friends. These journeys were a true turning point, broadening my horizons and awakening in me the certainty that I wanted to build a future beyond the expectations around me. This effort culminated in an unforgettable experience: representing Brazil in the RoboCup, the robotics world championship in Japan, where we achieved 7th place. It was a significant victory for those who relied solely on a passion for learning and growth. Additionally, I participated in the Latin American robotics competition three times. In my first participation, I celebrated a 4th place as a major achievement; in the second, I reached 3rd place, and in my final year of high school, I was crowned champion. These moments solidified my passion for technology and showed me the true potential of someone who constantly challenges themselves to go further.

Journey at Insper: My journey at Insper began during a challenging time, right after the loss of my father. Many of the worries that consumed me gradually faded as I embraced what it means to be part of Insper. In my first semester, driven by my passion for robotics, I gathered colleagues to revive the dream of competing in the RoboCup. Together with two friends I met upon joining, we founded Insper Dynamics, a student organization dedicated to representing Insper in the RoboCup, held in Thailand in 2022. We became Insper’s first representatives in the competition, achieving 4th place worldwide and earning the "Best in Class" award in sensing. Moreover, Insper opened countless doors for me. I participated in research on exoplanets, refining algorithms to make the search for planets outside our solar system more efficient, a project recognized by the TESS mission from NASA and MIT. I also received the 'Community Scholarship' award twice: once for my academic performance and another as a 'distinguished scholar,' the highest honor, which acknowledges achievement beyond the classroom. Thanks to Insper’s scholarship program, I also had the opportunity to attend Febraban, one of the most important financial events in Brazil, where I met Gustavo Botelho. In 2022, he invited me to participate in a discussion panel at BB Digital Week. All these experiences have shaped my journey and continuously motivate me to seek new opportunities and expand my horizons.

SRP at University of Illinois: This past summer, I had the honor of participating in the Summer Research Program at the University of Illinois. At Insper, I began my scientific journey with two significant research projects: the first involved applying quantum computing to accelerate the BLS algorithm, used in exoplanet discovery, and the second focused on parallel computing methods to optimize BLS performance. This second project continued under the guidance of the renowned professor Lawrence Rauchwerger, who mentored me during the two months I spent at Illinois. In addition to academic learning, I experienced a new culture and made valuable friendships. I even organized a Brazilian dinner for the other program students, with a traditional menu that included pão de queijo, coxinha, feijoada, and brigadeiro for dessert, which was a great success. Without a doubt, this experience broadened my perspective on the impact that academia can have on my life and the promising paths it opens up for me.

Exchange at IÉSEG: Since I was young, my dream has always been to explore the world and expand my horizons beyond the borders of northern Brazil. At 18, I left my hometown in search of experiences that would shape me both personally and professionally. Today, as I reflect on my journey, I can clearly see how these experiences have been essential for my growth and how they continue to propel me toward my goals. Participating in the exchange program at IÉSEG School of Management represents a crucial step on this path. IÉSEG is internationally recognized for its excellence in leadership training and innovation in business education. Joining such a prestigious institution, with a solid reputation among the top business schools in Europe, means more than academic learning; it is an opportunity for personal transformation. The chance to study in an environment that values both strategic vision and leadership capabilities will be decisive in expanding my skills and worldview. This exchange will allow me to develop essential competencies that go far beyond technical skills, such as leadership and strategic thinking—fundamental for transforming my technical expertise into innovative solutions. Being in a collaborative, multicultural learning environment, alongside future global leaders, will provide me with the perspective and confidence to dream big and envision the impact I can make by founding my own company. Without a doubt, the experience at IÉSEG will be a milestone in my life, providing the tools and global vision necessary for me to turn my dreams into reality.
